Geographical location
The Lahn-Dill Region is very conveniently located half-way between the Rhine-Main and Rhine-Ruhr conurbations, with excellent transportation links and Autobahn connections “right at your doorstep”. Frankfurt and Cologne-Bonn Airports are only about one hour away and the Siegerland Regional Airport is very close by. There are good public transportation connections.
Wetzlar, the regional administrative centre, is located in the romantic valley of the River Lahn, some 70 km north of Frankfurt and close to Limburg (40 km), Marburg (40 km) and Giessen (10 km). Whether by car, bus or train – any of these will bring you directly into the centre of Wetzlar.
Making your own way by car and train
To Wetzlar:
Wetzlar Station has direct connections to and from Frankfurt.
Autobahn A45: Dortmund – Hagen (Sauerlandlinie)
Exits: Wetzlar-Nord / Wetzlar-Ost / Wetzlar-Süd
Autobahn A3: Cologne – Frankfurt
Exit: Limburg-Nord, then via the B49 to the Wetzlar and Wetzlar-Garbenheim exits
Autobahn A5: Frankfurt – Kassel / Kassel – Frankfurt
Kassel – Frankfurt at the Reiskirchener Dreieck Autobahn intersection take the A45
Frankfurt – Kassel at the Gambacher Kreuz Autobahn intersection take the A45
To Braunfels:
From Frankfurt – Cologne: take the A3 to the Limburg-Nord exit, then follow the B49 towards Giessen as far as the Leun/Braunfels exit. Following Leun/Leun Bahnhof you will reach Braunfels. Then follow the local traffic signs.
From Dortmund – Frankfurt: Take the A45 to the Wetzlar-Ost exit, then follow the B49 to the Solms exit towards Braunfels. Then follow the local traffic signs.
From Giessen: Take the B49 towards Wetzlar and Limburg. Turn off the B49 at the Solms exit but head towards Braunfels. Then follow the local traffic signs.
To Dillenburg:
Dillenburg Station has direct connections to and from Frankfurt.
You can reach Dillenburg by car on the A45 or the B253 and B277.
To Herborn:
Herborn Station has direct connections to and from Frankfurt.
Herborn is located on the A45 at the edge of the Westerwald. By car, Frankfurt is just under one hour’s drive and Cologne approximately 1 hour 10 minutes.

By Air
Wetzlar, the administrative centre of the Lahn-Dill Region, is approximately 75 km from Frankfurt Airport which provides a large number of direct flights all over the world. Frankfurt Airport
The Siegerland Regional Airport is located only 50 km from Wetzlar. It provides facilities for small planes and business flights. Siegerland Airport
